Biography: The domestic guinea pig does not exist in the wild, but it is believed the species originated in South America. Guinea pigs are popular pets, but require a fair amount of time and attention. They can live 4-7 years, occasionally more, and love company of their own species and people. Guinea pigs come in a variety of colours and coat types, including short-haired, long-haired and Abysinnian (rough-haired!). They are friendly and sociable animals, enjoying large enclosure and lots of love and attention.
